A study visit in Gdynia

On May 23-25, 2022, representatives of the Krosno City Hall and organizational units participated in a study visit to Gdynia in connection with the implementation of the project “Krosno - a city accessible to everyone - implementation of accessibility standards" as a part of the project We Create + We Develop + We Activate + We Motivate + We Determine + We Change = Krosno” implemented within the Local Development Program.

The representatives took part in the Gala of the XXII edition of the "Gdynia without Barriers" competition, which was held at the Musical Theatre in Gdynia. The competition aims to honour institutions, organizations and individuals whose initiatives contribute to the elimination of architectural, communication and social barriers that make life difficult for people with disabilities.

During the meeting at the Gdynia City Hall, the presentation "Accessibility of City Facilities - Accessibility Standards, Examples of Selected City Investments" was given and the "Gdynia without Barriers" Program was presented. What is more, the long-standing experience of the City of Gdynia in implementing accessibility was discussed.

The visitation of the urban space took place in Gdynia's Central Park, which includes a skatepark, playground, gym and recreation zone. All zones are characterized by good accessibility.

Members of the delegation had the opportunity to visit public facilities operating in Gdynia. They visited the ARENA Sports and Entertainment Hall and the Emigration Museum. The first of these facilities in 2009 received the main award in the competition POLAND WITHOUT BARRIERS 2009 in the category of Sports and Recreation for comprehensive adaptation of the facility to the needs of people with disabilities.

On the last day of the study visit, the participants visited the General and Secondary School Complex No. 8 in Gdynia Wiczlino - a modern institution belonging to the worldwide network of Microsoft Showcase Schools, and the Social Welfare Home in Gdynia designed for the elderly and chronically somatically ill, most of whom move in wheelchairs.

During the study visit, the planned program was fulfilled and the assumed goal was achieved, which was to learn about the solutions applied in Gdynia in the area of accessibility, stakeholder service and the way services are provided to people with special needs, as well as to increase the knowledge and competence of employees and learn about good practices in the area of accessibility standards developed and implemented in the partner city of Gdynia.
